maui is committed to managing and developing its business in a sustainable manner and minimising the environmental impact of its activities.
To become a sustainable business maui focuses on balancing of three main principles: cost effectiveness, environmental responsibility and social responsibility.
Qualmark Endorsed
In New Zealand, maui achieved the Qualmark Enviro-Gold Award. To earn New Zealand tourism’s official environmental award, we had to demonstrate effectiveness in energy efficiency, waste management and water conservation, with community activities and conservation initiatives also considered under Qualmark’s environmental criteria.
Tourism Energy Efficiency Programme (TEEP)
We partnered with the Tourism Energy Efficiency Programme (TEEP) to audit our Auckland branch and this exercise provided learnings across the branch network to improve energy consumption and cost savings.
This partnership extended to the design of the new Maui Platinum motor home series manufactured by our vehicle sales brand Motek (maui and Motek are both owned by Tourism Holdings Limited). The prototype designs were tested for heat loss using infrared thermography. The results allowed us to improve the design and reduce heat loss by 15%. Our acceptance into the Better By Design programme (link better by design page) will further improve our capability in environmentally sustainable design.
Emissions Testing
maui is dedicated to ensuring our business has the smallest possible environmental impact. Hence, we are leading the way in reducing emissions from our motorhomes. We currently run the newest most efficient camper fleet in New Zealand and Australia. Our entire fleet is built to Euro 4 emission standards.
maui is the first New Zealand campervan rental provider to voluntarily have our fleet independently tested for vehicle emissions. We are committed to testing our vehicles annually and ensuring they make the grade with our first-class mechanical servicing.
