Oxfam Trailwalker, 9th & 10th April 2011, Taupo
If you are looking for a challenge to take you out of your comfort zone and are committed to raise funds for a great cause, maui suggests you put a team together for Oxfam Trailwalker. The next event is Saturday 9th & Sunday 10th April 2011 (yes, you’re likely to be walking both days!) around Lake Taupo. It challenges your team to walk or run 100kms through some of central North Island’s most spectacular terrain in 36 hours. Oxfam Trailwalker is not a relay - team members must start and finish together. Every step of the trail you will be helping to overcome poverty and injustice in some of the world’s poorest communities.
There’s no hiding it, Trailwalker involves lots of effort in terms of training and mental toughness during the event. Take it from us who have completed the 100kms, once you’re over that finish line, the satisfaction is immense.
Teamwork is key so grab a bunch of friends or work colleagues, and get training and fundraising. And don’t think that you have to be an athlete to complete Trailwalker! You’ll see all types of people, different ages, different builds at the event. Dedicate yourself to training and leave the rest to the top few inches.
Each checkpoint along the way has a festival type atmosphere and you can’t help notice the number of campers used by walkers and their support crew as a base for a quick pit stop - they make an ideal base to prepare food in, get a quick massage for your hammies and much easier than getting changed out of the boot of your car! Festival of Colour, 12 -17th April 2011, Wanaka
